I’m deciding to turn today around. Everyone has these happy posts about their New Years resolutions and goals for the year, and I’m here whining about how I feel depressed.

I do feel depressed and I’m not here to invalidate myself, but I don’t have to dwell in that place I suppose. Everything is not terrible.

I have a lot of blessings in my life. Perhaps a better use of the new year is to inventory those and be thankful.

I am thankful for my family, without whom I would be lost.

I am thankful for my friends who make me laugh daily and provide me companionship and a listening ear and also an opportunity to listen.

I am thankful for my relatively decent health.

I am thankful for the roof over my head and the creature comforts I have.

I am thankful for access to medical and psychiatric care.

I am thankful for my providers, without whom I might find myself in huge trouble.

I am thankful for my freedom that I am given by virtue of the imperfect, but amazing place I live.

I’m thankful that I discovered blogging this year.

Last but not least…

I’m thankful for every person who reads my blog.

  2. I love this list. Honestly new years is just another day and depression is real and has no fcks to give for arbitrary holidays 😂 allowing yourself to feel gratitude is a really great way to start retraining your brain to get out of a funk. Love your list

      1. I am almost 35 and struggled with mental illness my whole life. The single best thing that has helped me is trying to focus on the positives even though it’s hard AF. Always here for you 🌻

      2. Thank you! I’m 38 and I’ve lived with it since I was probably 12. There’s def a learning curve. Some days I’m more skillful than others. It’s always good to have reminders for when I get lost in my head. I appreciate the support more than you know! 🌼
