Icarus

Icarus

I buzz with unspent energy sparking intermittently

with bursts of psychological output like a shorted circuit.

My body vibrates in tune with every ambient rhythm

and my eyes sparkle with the shimmer of a silver disco ball.

Euphoric like a woman under the spell of cocaine,

serotonin and dopamine soak my brain causing a natural high.

High like the shining Chrysler in all her glory, but I know

that this natural, unnatural state has a zenith.

I soar across my mind on wings of Icarus destined

to get too close to the heat of the manic sun

and come hurtling back to earth like a meteor

all aflame with nothing but my tears to quench it.
